Aftermarket Triggers: Top 5 for Glock Pistols

Glock, Glock, Glock, it’s the Marsha of modern handguns. They admittedly do deserve their top spot and offer shooters a reliable, easy-to-handle platform. These guns are accurate, easy to shoot, and are available in different shapes, sizes, and calibers. It’s not a big surprise they are a popular choice. Being the most popular choice doesn’t necessarily mean they are perfect. As much as Glock tries to use the “perfection” tag, there are aftermarket triggers out there that can make them even better. This includes the trigger. The trigger pull is fine—it’s not too heavy nor too light. However, everything about the trigger pull can be improved. It can be made lighter and smoother, and things like pre and overtravel can be smoothed out. Not to mention getting rid of that famed trigger finger rub Glocks are famous for.

There are tons of options to upgrade your Glock trigger on the market, but which ones are worthy of your hard-earned money? I’ve got five, and I think they are the perfect upgrade for your Glock pistol.

Glock Performance Trigger

Glock must have noticed that dozens of different companies produced upgraded triggers for their guns and decided to get in on the action themselves. They released the Glock Performance Trigger to edge in on some of that sweet aftermarket money. The Glock Performance Trigger aims to deliver a shorter, lighter trigger pull without compromising reliability. Glock built their reputation on reliability and anything they release is bound to be just that.

The Glock Performance Trigger makes an interesting change to the Glock design. Glock builds striker-fired pistols with partially cocked strikers. It’s technically a double-action design because it fully cocks the gun and then fires the gun. With the Glock Performance Trigger, the striker is fully cocked, and the trigger only releases the striker. It effectively becomes a single-action weapon.

This transforms the trigger. It becomes super light and smooth. The difference is impressive. The lighter trigger design results in better overall accuracy and a quicker reset to cut those par times by the fractions of a second that matter. Glock even recognized the fact their curved trigger tends to rub and instead went with a flat-faced trigger shoe that’s more comfortable, ergonomic, and even easier to reach.

The downside to the Glock Performance Trigger is that it only works with Gen 5 guns. This limits you to only a few guns, and if you already own a previous generation of the Glock pistol, like me, then you’re out of luck.

Timney Alpha Competition

Timney Triggers, renowned for their precision and craftsmanship in AR triggers, has extended their expertise to other platforms, including the Austrian-made Glock series of firearms. The Timney Alpha Competition trigger, a testament to their commitment to excellence, is their premier Glock trigger system. Designed to smooth out grit, lighten your trigger, and enhance its overall ergonomics, the Alpha Competition trigger is a testament to superior quality.

Timney went with a Teflon nickel trigger bar and sear. Yep, Teflon, the stuff that sits happily in your nonstick pans. The same properties that keep stuff from sticking to your pan create a very smooth and non-abrasive surface with natural lubricity. This helps reduce friction, which smooths out grit and creates that smooth trigger pull.

The Alpha series reduces the weight of your trigger pull down to a consistent three pounds. The trigger is backed by a very crisp break that’s predictable and downright lovely. It’s got that glass rod feeling. The trigger blade is straight and made from anodized aluminum. If I’m training with a stock Glock trigger shoe, it begins to feel like it’s trying to rub a hole into my finger. That’s gone with the flat-faced trigger design.

The trigger is compatible with all stock Glock parts outside of the trigger bar, sear, and trigger shoe. It’s an easy install. The only real downside is the price. It’s not one of the cheaper options, but the performance speaks for itself.

Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Triggers

Apex Tactical makes triggers for a wide variety of handguns, and it’s not surprising that they’ve entered the Glock world. Apex is a very innovative company that has worked with firearms far more complicated than Glock. Their Action Enhancement Triggers come in Generation 1 to 4 options and a Gen 5 option. The Action Enhancement Triggers are quick to install, compatible with stock Glock parts, and refine every part of your Glock’s trigger.

The Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Triggers reduce trigger pull weight by about a pound, so you don’t get too light for your own good. It’s still well suited for duty and defensive use. The Action Enhancement Triggers smooth out trigger pull, reduce pretravel, overtravel, and reset distance, and, to put it simply, clean the trigger up.

Installing the trigger is easy. It’s a direct drop-in design that makes it easy to install, and it will play nicely with all of your Glock stock parts. Like most Glock aftermarket triggers, the curved trigger is gone and replaced by a flat-face metal trigger shoe. It still includes trigger safety and works with every internal Glock safety device without issue. The Action Enhancement Trigger isn’t cheap but fairly priced for such a nice trigger.

CMC Drop-In Trigger

CMC is another company that made its name by producing high-quality drop-in AR-15 triggers. They made the predictable pivot to Glock triggers and have undoubtedly made quite the splash. The CMC Drop-In Glock trigger uses some influence from their AR-line of triggers. If you’re good at something, why not stick to what you know? The CMC Drop-In Trigger fits a wide variety of Glocks. CMC makes triggers for Gen 3, 4, and 5, as well as 9mm slimline guns.

The CMC Drop-In Glock triggers utilize the CMC Signature Flat trigger shoe, which still incorporates the Glock trigger safety device. The bottom of the trigger is angled a bit to prevent it from sliding off when firing and engaging rapidly. The CMC Drop-In Trigger system gives you a smooth trigger pull with a nice short reach.

The pretravel is reduced, and the trigger is ultra smooth. It slides rearward with a smoothness that’s hard to beat. It’s surprisingly smooth and really sands away any grit you might have ever felt with your Glock handgun. Installation is easy, and all you have to do is follow a short video and you’ll have it installed and ready in no time.

The CMC trigger is somewhere between affordable and expensive. It isn’t cheap, but it does offer good value for the money spent. If you like CMC’s flat-faced trigger design, you can now have that in your Glock.

ZEV Technologies Fulcrum Adjustable Drop-In Trigger

The Glock aftermarket has evolved in a similar vein to the M1911 aftermarket. It’s a very customizable and popular platform, and plenty of companies began producing parts. Eventually, the demand allowed for complete custom shops to open. ZEV was one of the OGs of custom Glock shops. Predictably, as a custom shop, they produced their own accessories, and Glock triggers must have been near the top of their list.

The ZEV Technologies Fulcrum Adjustable Drop-In Trigger replaces your standard trigger with a flat-faced metal trigger that’s a complete drop-in kit. It has every part you need to swap your trigger and take it to the next level. Control freaks will adore this trigger. You can adjust nearly every component to make it perfect for you.

Sure, you can adjust the pull weight down to about three pounds, but you can also adjust the pretravel and the overtravel to provide a shorter pull. A shorter pull results in faster splits and helps eliminate some human error. The trigger gives shooters an excellent reset that’s nice and chunky.

The trigger shoe is wide and bulky, but that allows for increased control. The trigger dingus is present but larger and more comfortable than most. The aforementioned “Glock finger” won’t be a problem with this trigger. Overall, it’s an excellent trigger and a high-tech one. The downside is the price. At over 250 dollars, the trigger costs half as much as most Glocks.

An Itchy Finger

The stock Glock trigger isn’t bad, but we all know it could be better. That’s evident by the multitude of Glock triggers that are available on the market. If you’re unsure of where to start, the above five Glock triggers are top-tier options and provide a better, cleaner trigger pull than any stock trigger. Just because it’s good doesn’t mean it can’t be better.
