The Springfield Prodigy: Now in Coyote Brown
If you are in the market for a competition pistol without a second mortgage, the Springfield Armory Prodigy is a well-appointed option out of the box. This optics-ready 2011 has all the natural ergonomics of the old 1911 platform but with double-digit capacity and a modular grip for 21st-century performance. The Prodigy debuted with an all-black cerakote finish to the stainless steel slide and frame. Now you can take your pick between all-black and the new coyote brown Prodigy.
The coyote brown Prodigy 2011 has an earth-friendly tone but is otherwise the same familiar pistol many are flocking to for competition shooting. The Prodigy features a stainless-steel slide and frame, as well as a modular polymer grip frame with a flared mag-well and a magazine capacity ranging from 10 to 26 rounds. The grip texture itself echoes that seen and felt on the Echelon and Hellcat pistols.
The Prodigy skips the barrel bushing and GI guide rod of a traditional 1911 for an accurized bull barrel, and the new model is available with either a 4.25-inch or 5-inch barrel. The slide is equipped with a high-profile fiber optic front sight and a steel U-notch rear, but the Prodigy also comes optics-ready. It employs proprietary Agency Optic System adapter plates to handle most reflex sights on the market while keeping the existing iron sights in the optics window as an added redundancy.
The Springfield Armory Prodigy in coyote brown is available with standard capacity magazines or restricted 10-round magazines and with either a compact or full-sized model in the aforementioned barrel lengths. All models are shipping now and have an MSRP of $1,549.
