Chicago Food Vendor with CCL Injured in Gunfight with Armed Robber, Suspect Killed

CHICAGO, IL — A food vendor with a concealed carry license was injured, and a suspect was fatally shot during a confrontation Friday night in the Austin neighborhood. The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. in the 300 block of South Central Avenue.

Chicago police reported that a 35-year-old food vendor was approached by a man, approximately 30 years old, which led to a brief struggle. Both individuals drew firearms, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was struck multiple times and transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later died.

The vendor sustained injuries during the altercation and was taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. He is currently listed in good condition.

Authorities recovered two firearms at the scene and confirmed that the vendor is a licensed concealed carry holder. Area Four detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
