A Lafayette man attempting a home invasion in Iberia Parish was shot in self-defense by a homeowner and now faces attempted murder charges. This ongoing investigation may lead to further charges.

IBERIA PARISH, LA (2-minute read) — Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a home invasion and stabbing on the 4900 and 5000 blocks of Dolphin Street on October 31 around 6 p.m.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered the suspect, 47-year-old Casey Meaux from Lafayette, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The injury was reportedly inflicted by a homeowner acting in self-defense during the break-in at the home involved.

It was revealed that Meaux had entered two separate residences, allegedly attacking the occupants in what is being investigated as a violent home invasion. Both the victims and Meaux received emergency medical attention and were subsequently transported to local hospitals.

Meaux faces serious charges, including two counts of Home Invasion and two counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder. Although his injuries were significant, he was arrested and remains in custody while receiving medical treatment. Law enforcement officials indicate that additional charges could be filed as the investigation progresses.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings and consider proactive measures to secure your home. In the event of a break-in, prioritize calling law enforcement, and know the self-defense laws in your state.
