.45-70 Lever-Rifle Adds Magpul ELG Stock!

The Ruger acquisition of Marlin Firearms continues to deliver for lever-gun fans. Over the last couple of years, we’ve witnessed the return of the Model 1895, the 336, Dark Series and more. Now the Marlin 1895 Trapper moves makes an unexpected move into the world of the contemporary, direct from the factory with Magpul ELG furniture.

Stylized after Ruger original Tapper series rifle, the new variant comes with a Magpul ELG stock and forend. Constructed of reinforced polymer, the ELG furniture adds a durable system impervious to weather. Functional and attractive, it utilizes a stock an forend with M-LOK and QD attachments.

The interior of the stock features an integrated storage compartment that holds six additional rounds. The rifle ships with a length of pull spacer kit. Once installed, it increases length of pull up to 1 1/2 inches in 1/2-inch increments. The system also includes a cheek riser kit for better sight alignment with optics.

1895 Trapper Features

From there, everything else is pure Marlin. The rifle sports a 16.17-inch cold hammer-forged barrel chambered in .45-70 Govt. The threaded barrel comes with a match-polished thread protector.

The stainless steel receiver, lever, magazine tube and barrel wear a non-glare, satin finish and black hardware for a distinctive look. Upgraded Skinner Sights and a Picatinny rail round out this hunt-ready package.

Long live the lever-gun! Marlin made a big announcement today, marking the return of the popular 1895 Trapper rifle. Chambered in the iconic .45-70 Gov’t, the 1895 Trapper brings a bruising, capable big-game hunter back to the Marlin stable. And at first glance, the package looks perfect for most big-game hunting pursuits.

Marlin 1895 Trapper Details

Last year, the Model 1895 kicked off the Ruger era of Marlin Firearms. Now the 1895 Trapper returns, featuring a receiver, lever and trigger guard plate CNC machined from 416 stainless steel forgings. Meanwhile, the barrel utilizes 410 stainless steel, hammer-forged for ultra-precise rifling, delivering accuracy and durability, according to Marlin. The threaded barrel comes with a thread protector over 11/16″-24 pattern, accommodating muzzle brakes or other accessories.

All of the stainless steel components come with a non-shiny, satin finish. It should stand up well in the elements. Adjustable Skinner sights include a receiver-mounted peep for fast acquisition. A five-round, tubular magazine and loading gate feed the system.

The 1895 Trapper includes many features familiar to lever-gun fans. It comes with a push-button, cross-bolt manual safety. A traditional half-cock hammer should appeal to many lever-gun hunters.
