Magpul's New DT-S Stock Adds Waterproof Battery Storage

November 6, 2026

Magpul's new DT-S Carbine Stock takes the Dual Tension locking system from the original DT stock and widens the body to fit two sealed, waterproof storage tubes, giving shooters a way to stash spare batteries without bolting on extra gear.

Key points

  • Dual Tension carries over: the DT-S uses the same friction-based locking mechanism as the DT stock, holding position on the buffer tube without a second locking lever, while still adjusting through an ambidextrous latch.
  • Storage built in: two parallel tubes, each sealed with dual O-rings and rated waterproof to 10 meters, hold up to two CR123 or AA batteries apiece for optics and accessories.
  • Bigger and heavier: the DT-S weighs 15.0 ounces versus 9.8 for the standard DT, and its width grows from 1.6 to 2.5 inches, though length of pull stays at 3.3 inches on both.
  • Pricing and colors: Magpul lists the DT-S starting at $94.95, $25 more than the DT, in Black, FDE, and OD Green now, with Coyote Brown coming soon.

Quick take

Sealed battery storage on a carbine stock is a small but practical idea, and pairing it with Magpul's existing Dual Tension lockup means you're not trading stability for convenience. The weight and width increase are the obvious tradeoffs for that extra storage space, so it comes down to whether you'd rather carry spares on the stock or elsewhere.
